Presentation for the Dance Therapy / Movement Therapy Summit (March 9)
Enhancing Resilience: Teaching Embodiment Practices to Adolescents and Young Adults
Drawing from the presenter’s book, The Embodied Teen, participants experience a sample exploration followed by a presentation/discussion to ‘unpack’ the specific language and pedagogy skills used. Crafting an accessible in-road to somatic movement practices helps to set students up for success. Come experience, explore, and discuss how to skillfully pass along our somatic lineage to the next generation!

Workshop for the Authentic Movement Summit (April 21)
The Body Knows: Harvesting the Essence of a Gesture
In the practice of Authentic Movement, people learn to listen to the impulses for movement in their bodies and to give them voice. As a somatic movement therapist, Susan similarly encourages people to seek self-awareness through movement expression that arises spontaneously, such as in a simple gesture or movement phrase. Through examples of multiple clients, Susan illustrates the transformative power of these simple somatic interventions to help people listen to the voice of their own bodies. Participants will also be invited to experience components of this process and share their experiences.

What is the purpose of WAEF?
“WAEF 2023 strives to support our global community and will focus on the use of the embodied arts in imagining and re-creating new possibilities in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. They provide innovative pathways towards building resilience and healing, and for integrating cultural and spiritual practices that include and invoke multiple histories, ways of understanding and perceiving as well as other indigenous knowledge systems to theorize and imagine anew…“
