The form of Authentic Movement is profound and simple, and involves a mover and a witness. Movers move with eyes closed, allowing deepened attention to one’s inner kinesthetic experience, while the witness holds the place of a non-judgmental presence and compassionate support. Introductory workshops are open to those new to Authentic Movement, as well as to those with previous experience.
We will begin with a brief introduction to the history and form of Authentic Movement, followed by time to engage in the practice. You will have an opportunity to move, with time afterward for processing on your own through writing, drawing, or resting. We will then have a sharing circle, with each mover speaking first, followed by brief witness feedback provided by me. We open and close with a brief meditation.
Susan Bauer has been dedicated to the discipline of Authentic Movement since 1984. She has studied with Janet Adler and several graduates of the Mary Starks Whitehouse Institute of Authentic Movement in Northampton, MA. Susan has a passion for both introducing beginners to this practice and leading experienced practitioners into its further depth through her classes and private practice as a Registered Master Somatic Movement Educator and Therapist.
