Berkeley, California
Saturday, 1:30pm – 4pm
(Followed by Book Signing 4-4:30)
Winter is a time for calming down and going within. Days are shorter, and the earlier nighttime becons us into quieter moments.
Yet for many of us, the exact opposite occurs, as we find ourselves overloaded with the many demands of the holidays and our consumeristic culture. We speed up, rush, take on more than we can handle, and often override our need to rest. This propels us into a state in which our sympathetic nervous system is on high-drive, depleting us of the vitality we need to truly enjoy the season.
Join this afternoon workshop–on the Winter Solstice–designed to help you to reset your nervous system from within.
With gentle movement practices and guided partner work, you will be guided to slow down and begin to heal your body of accumulated stress. You’ll also learn fun and engaging somatic activities that you can continue to explore at home to help you de-stress in body and mind on a daily basis. These practices cultivate inner awareness to take into the upcoming holidays, as well as to support you as we move toward the longer days of Springtime.
Give yourself the gift of this time, to go within and gain practical tools to manage your everyday life with more ease and Grace.
After the workshop, signed copies of Susan’s new book, The Embodied Teen: A Somatic Curriculum for Teaching Body-Mind Awareness, Kinesthetic Intelligence, and Social and Emotional Skills (North Atlantic Books, 2018) will be available for purchase. With 50 activities for building somatic awareness, the book provides a wealth of material appropriate for adults as well.
Note: No previous movement or bodywork experience is needed and all are welcome. You should, however, be comfortable with improvised movement and with using guided, intentional touch with a partner. Wear or bring loose, comfortable clothes to move in.
