A NEW ERA IN DANCE EDUCATION

Workshop / Presentation: Sunday, October 7th
The Joys and Challenges of Teaching
Somatic Movement Education (SME) to Teens

This workshop engages adults in experiencing a groundbreaking program that helps adolescents learn about themselves and their bodies, develop their kinesthetic intelligence, and set a healthy trajectory for their future. Based in experiential anatomy, the program also encompasses mindfulness and social-emotional learning to help students examine their cultural perceptions, discover their body prejudices, and gain compassion for themselves and others.

The material is based on Susan Bauer’s new book, The Embodied Teen, the first book to offer a somatic movement education curriculum adapted to the needs and sensitivities of adolescents. Includes her 8 Key Pedagogy Principles for Teaching SME with Teens. Enjoy time to move, reflect, and experience these lessons that empower teens as they navigate the many challenges during this pivotal stage of life.
